Understanding our wireless network improvements

We’re investing in our wireless network to make your everyday experience more reliable. These upgrades include increasing capacity on existing cell towers and building new sites across Canada.

What these upgrades mean for you

As improvements roll out in your area, you may notice:

  • A stronger connection.
  • Faster data speeds with more 5G coverage.
  • Better support for Wi‑Fi Calling with expanded VoLTE coverage.

Our goal is to give you a network that keeps up with you, alongside plans that fit your budget.

How VoLTE helps

VoLTE lets you make clearer, faster‑connecting voice and video calls. To use it, you’ll need a compatible device. Visit a Fido store, they can help check your device’s features.

Device compatibility and your experience

Network upgrades improve the overall connection in an area, but your device still plays a big role. To get the best performance, a 5G or VoLTE‑capable device is recommended.

You may not notice immediate changes if:

  • The upgrade supports technology your device doesn’t have.
  • Your device isn’t performing at its best.
  • The improvement is groundwork for future technologies rather than an instant speed boost.

Reception can also be affected by everyday factors, including:

  • Terrain and buildings, like concrete, steel or underground spaces.
  • Your device’s signal strength.
  • The speed you’re moving, since constant movement can impact the signal.
  • Environmental conditions.

Some network investments are preparing the network for future technologies. You may already be getting the speeds you need today, so you won’t always see a noticeable change right away.

You can troubleshoot using the Device Toolbox in the Fido My Account app or visit a Fido store for help.
