How to change your phone number

Monthly service

You can change your phone number by yourself over the internet or by using our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone system.

Things to Know

  • Your account balance must be in good standing for you to change your phone number.
  • If you have voicemail, you’ll lose all your saved messages as well as your greeting message, voice signature and access code. Once the change of phone number is completed, you’ll need to set up your voicemail again by choosing a new access code and recording a new greeting message/voice signature.
  • There is a charge of $25 for changing your phone number, unless you’re changing it because you’re moving to a different region (outside your current local calling area).
  • If the change happens during your billing cycle, your airtime minutes, add-ons and monthly plan charges will be associated with either your old or new telephone number.
On fido.ca (if you're the account holder)
  • Log in to My Account
  • Click Change phone number in the My Fido Service section
  • Select the province and city
  • Click on Search for available numbers.
  • To see more available numbers click Get more numbers
    • Note: the previous numbers shown to you will no longer be available
  • Click the box beside the number of your choice
  • Click Next
  • A confirmation page will appear:
  • Review this page to make sure the information is accurate.
    • If it is not accurate: click Modify to start the change of phone number process again.
  • Read the terms and conditions and click I accept.
  • Click Submit.
  • Once you’ve completed your telephone number change on fido.ca, you’ll need to wait up to 2 hours before being able to access fido.ca again.
  • An email and text message will be sent to confirm that the change of phone number has been completed.
  • The change will be effective immediately. Simply power your phone off, and then power it on again.
By using the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system
  • Call 6-1-1, free of charge, from your Fido phone or 1-888-481-3436.
  • Select English or French.
  • Enter your 10-digit phone number.
  • Select the menu 2-4-1 and follow the instructions.
  • Once the transaction is completed, you’ll receive a text message confirming that the change of phone number has been completed.
  • The change will take effect immediately. Simply power your phone off, and then on again.

Prepaid service

You can change your phone number by yourself over the internet or by calling a Customer service Representative.

Things to Know

  • You must have a minimum balance of $25.01 in your prepaid account to complete the phone number change, even though changing your phone number is free.
  • There's a charge of $25 for changing your phone number unless you’re changing it because you’re moving to a different region (outside your current local calling area).
  • If you have voicemail, you’ll lose all your saved messages as well as your greeting message, voice signature and access code. Once the change of phone number is completed, you’ll need to set up your voicemail again by choosing a new access code and recording a new greeting message/voice signature.
