To use Fido Wi-Fi calling, you need:
Things to Know
- The Wi-Fi connection must be on a high-speed Internet connection with a minimum of 512 kbps for both uplink and downlink.
- A voice grade optimized router is recommended to provide the best voice calls quality.
- Fido recommends you provide the address of where the Wi-Fi router is installed and where you will be using the service, to ensure that in the event that you place a 9-1-1 call over your Wi-Fi connection AND are unable to speak, that the Emergency Operator will look up the Emergency address that you have provided for your Wi-Fi router and will provide that address to the nearest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) (see below for more details).
- You must set your phone to the current time and date to ensure your service works properly.
- When making or receiving a call over Wi-Fi, the cellular antenna strength indicator will display a “UMA” or “uma” indicator on the top-right corner. (Indicator might change location according to device used.)
- You may not be able to call over Wi-Fi If you have weak Wi-Fi coverage, or if the Wi-Fi connection is not working. i.e, if your home internet connection is down.
- All other Fido services will work normally except for location-based services. For example: Alternative long distance providers (casual calling, Equal access), 2-1-1, 3-1-1, 8-1-1 and special numbers.
