Everything you need to know about 5G

5G is the next generation of our wireless network. It’s designed to give you faster speeds and a smoother experience on your phone. Learn how to check if your device is 5G ready, see if your plan includes 5G and explore the differences between 4G/LTE and 5G.

Eligibility for 5G

New and existing customers get access to 5G with speeds up to 1 Gbps when using a 5G-capable device. Most newer smartphones already support 5G. To check if your device supports it, visit How to check if your device is 5G compatible.

Your device will keep working normally on 4G/LTE network.

Device requirements

To use the 5G network, you’ll need a 5G-capable device. If your device only supports 4G/LTE, you can keep using it without changing anything. You can also upgrade to a device that supports 5G.

Go to our phones page or a store to explore upgrade options.

Your current SIM or eSIM works with 5G and doesn't need to be replaced.

Plan eligibility

Most Fido mobile plans include 5G. If you’re on an eligible plan and have a 5G-capable device, you’re all set.

Basic plans and Wireless Home Phone plans don't support 5G. If your plan doesn’t include 5G, you’ll need to switch to an eligible plan.

Your monthly price, plan details, and data bucket remain the same with Data Overage Protection.

How to confirm you’re connected to 5G

When you’re in a 5G coverage area, your phone will show a 5G symbol at the top of the screen where you normally see 4G/LTE.

Differences between 4G/LTE and 5G

5G delivers faster speeds than 4G/LTE.

Connecting to the 5G network doesn't increase data. Your data usage depends on what you do on your phone.

Why you may still see 4G on your bill

We’re updating our systems to show 5G in billing and account details. These updates will appear on upcoming bills.
