How to configure an unlocked device

If you are using a mobile phone that you have purchased outside of Canada or from a different carrier, you should be able to use it with Fido as long as it is “unlocked”. See the monthly plans that Fido offers.

Things to Know

  • Your device must be compatible with the Fido network, which uses GSM, UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz and LTE at 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz. If you are unsure of how to check the frequencies your device supports, try the manufacturer's official website and search for the specifications for your particular phone/smartphone model;
  • If your device is currently locked, it needs to be unlocked;
  • If your device is not compatible, consult our latest selection of Fido mobile phones and smartphones;
  • To use your unlocked device, you must buy and activate a Fido SIM card:
    - Online: Visit Fido.ca;
    - Fido store: Visit the nearest location .
  • If your phone is compatible with the Fido network, it will be able to access voice and text services. In order to access Internet and multimedia messaging (MMS) services , you'll need to configure the browser and messaging settings;
  • If you want to use the Internet on your “unlocked ” phone, you must also subscribe to a Data Add-on
  • If you are using a LTE device, a LTE SIM card is required to benefit from the LTE network.

Once you've obtained a Fido SIM card

If your SIM card is already activated:

  • Simply insert your SIM card into your mobile phone or smartphone.

If your SIM card is not activated yet:

  • Activate your Fido service online, by calling us at 1-866-302-FIDO (3436) or by visiting the nearest Fido store.
  • Consult our current plans and Add-ons that work best for you;

Follow the configuration instructions based on your device
