How does the Home Phone service work?
  • Fido’s newest service offers customers a value-priced home phone solution leveraging the Fido wireless network. Unlike traditional home phone services, the Fido Home Phone does not use any interior phone lines or jacks, but instead uses the wireless network to make and receive phone calls. A ZTE home phone device is required and connects the customer’s existing home telephone to the wireless network in order to place and receive calls.
What kind of phone do I need to work with the Home Phone device?
  • The Home Phone service will work with any corded or cordless phone however it is not compatible with older rotary phones. The Home Phone device supports up to 2 phone base stations, plus the associated cordless handsets powered by your phone system’s base station. The Home Phone device comes with a battery pack and can work for up to 36 hours in case of a power outage. However, like traditional phone service you will need a corded phone plugged into your home phone device in order to maintain your service as cordless systems require power to function.
Can I move the Home Phone device to another location?
  • Yes---The Home Phone device is portable and can be moved to any location in Canada with coverage on the Fido wireless network. This makes it an ideal solution for those with a cottage or temporary home. The Home Phone device does not work outside of Canada.
Does the Home Phone device support data or text messaging?
  • No. The Home Phone device gives you access to the wireless network for voice calls only. The SIM card used by the Home Phone device is only compatible with the ZTE device, it will not work in your smartphone or tablet.
Is the Fido Home Phone compatible with other services?
  • The Home Phone service is not compatible with some services that require landline communication:
    • Home security systems - most providers offer alternative options such as cellular-based monitoring, which is compatible with Fido Home Phone. Contact your home security provider to learn about your options;
    • Fax machines;
    • Medical alert systems;
    • Dial-up internet service;
    • DSL internet service;
    • Wireless messaging, data services or EDI (i.e. transmissions for medical offices or insurance)
    • POS (point of sale) systems;
    • Multi-line extensions or call hunting groups.
  • Please note: The Home Phone service is compatible with most condo and building buzzer systems but there are some exceptions in buildings with older buzzer technology.

SIM included with device is locked to and may only be used with the ZTE Home Phone device. Home phone device accesses phone service over the Fido network. For important wireless 9-1-1 information, visit 9-1-1 calls are routed based on the wireless network’s automatic location technology, but you may have to provide your home address to emergency responders. Fido recommends that you always have an alternative means of accessing 9-1-1 services from your home or business during a power or network outage. Corded or cordless landline home phone equipment is not included. Not compatible with services including but not limited to home security systems, wireless messaging and data services, fax service, medical alert systems, medical monitoring systems, credit card machines, IP/PBX Phone systems, or dial-up Internet service. May not be compatible with your DVR/Satellite systems, please check with your provider.
