Ringbacks

What is Ringbacks?

It replaces the standard ringing sound callers hear when they call you. You can choose a song for someone special, choose something funny for a group of friends, even play different content at different times of the day.

How do I get it?

From a 2G or 3G Fido phone for monthly plan subscribers:

  • Simply Text “Ringbacks” to 555 and then follow the instructions.

From an iPhone or a Smartphone:

  • Call 611 or 1-888-481-FIDO (3436) and ask for Ringbacks.

You'll receive a text message confirming your access to the service.

Already subscribed? Access your Ringbacks account directly on your Fido.

How do I set up/purchase Ringbacks from my computer?

Once you have activated Ringbacks, log in to your Ringbacks account.

From the Ringbacks home page, you can preview the catalogue and purchase songs or see how many Ringbacks you have available in your account. The number of credits indicates how many songs you can purchase at no charge.

Make your selection and click on Buy. Just confirm your purchase and follow the instructions to set up your Ringbacks. The songs/content will expire in 6 months from the date of purchase.

How do I access/purchase from my Fido?

Launch the Fido Mobile Internet Portal from your phone (at this moment subscribers with an iPhone or a smartphone can only setup/purchase Ringbacks from a computer). Here’s how:

  1. Select the Internet icon from the main menu of your phone
  2. Click on the Shop link and select Ringbacks
  3. Browse through and select a song from your favourite artist. Click on the Purchase Ringback link to get more info and subscribe to the service (if you’re not already subscribing to Ringbacks).

Once you've purchased a song from your Fido, it will play to all callers who are not set up with a customized Ringbacks song. For more customization options for individual callers and groups, visit fido.ca and manage your Ringbacks from there.

The songs/content will expire in 6 months from the date of purchase.

Do I need a special Fido phone?

No. All you need is text messaging and a monthly plan. Ringbacks are not available on Prepaid.

How much does it cost?

It's just $1 per month for the service and $2 per song purchase. Or you can choose the $3 per month option, which includes 2 songs each month.

Am I charged each time a caller hears my song?

No, you only pay for the songs you buy.

What's the difference between Ringbacks and a ringtone?

Ringtones are what you hear when you receive a call.
Ringbacks are what your callers hear when they call you.

How many Ringbacks can I buy?

Up to 15 for each Fido number on your account. To purchase more, you'll have to delete an existing song in your Ringbacks account on fido.ca.

Do my songs ever expire?

Yes, but only after 6 months. You'll receive a text message seven days before the song expires. If you want to keep the song, simply re-purchase it on fido.ca or on your Fido phone. Your Ringbacks account always remains active, even if you have no songs in it.

Can I preview a song from my Fido?

Unfortunately, no. But you can from your online account.

How do I manage callers?

For individual callers

Visit the My Callers page and enter their names and phone numbers. You can't have duplicate names.

For groups

Click on My Groups. Up to 10 groups with 20 callers can be set up on your Ringbacks service. For example, you can play one song for friends and another for your mom.

How do I set up a song for my callers?

Once you've created your callers and/or groups, you can assign songs to them by clicking on Setup Ringbacks. You can also play just one song to all incoming callers.

The songs/content will expire in 6 months from the date of purchase.

Can people calling me hear a normal ring at work and a Ringbacks after-hours?

Sure! On fido.ca, select the Time of Day option under Set up Ringbacks, and choose a Ringbacks for a particular time. The regular ringing sound will be played for your callers during all other times.

Can I have some people hear my Ringbacks and others just a regular ring?

Absolutely. Here's how:

  • Access your Ringbacks account on fido.ca.
  • Add the callers who will hear a Ringbacks song to your account.
  • Click on My Groups and create a group with those callers.
  • Click on Set Up Ringbacks and choose the song.

All callers outside this group will only hear a regular ring.

Some people calling me may be confused hearing a song. What can I do?

You can add a background ringing sound (called ring overlay) while your songs are playing.

  • Access your Ringbacks account on fido.ca.
  • Click on Set Up Ringbacks.
  • Check Play Ringbacks overlay to all callers.

The ring overlay plays behind all songs.

What happens to my Ringbacks if I change my Fido number?

Your Ringbacks account will transfer to your new Fido number, along with all the songs you've purchased.

Can I send a gift song to another Fido subscriber?

Yes. The subscriber can then set up the song as a Ringbacks through his account on fido.ca. If the subscriber doesn't have Ringbacks, he'll need to register for the service first. You'll be charged only if your recipient accepts the song.

I’m a Fido prepaid customer, can I get Ringbacks?

At this time, the Ringbacks service is available only to monthly plan subscribers.
