For the fast and the furry, LTE enables Canadians to use their mobile devices to quickly download apps, upload images of their four-legged friends and download HD files, such as movies and music, with virtually no delays or buffering. Coming this summer, the Fido Mobile Hotspot will be the first LTE-enabled device available from Fido. This device creates a Wi-Fi hotspot wherever, and whenever customers need it, and wirelessly connects up to 10 Wi-Fi capable devices simultaneously. LTE-enabled smartphones will be available at Fido later this year, and all of the Fido LTE-enabled devices are capable of running across Fido's 4G HSPA+ network which covers 96 per cent of the population of Canada.
How Fast Is Fast?
As of today, Fido LTE devices are capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 100 Mbps1 and Fido customers are experiencing typical download speeds from 12 Mbps to 25 Mbps for most devices, or even up to 40 Mbps for select devices on the Fido LTE network, which supports 2600 MHz spectrum for LTE connectivity2.

What is LTE?
LTE, or “Long Term Evolution”, is the global gold standard in wireless network technology. Far superior to previous technologies such as 3G and 4G HSPA+, LTE delivers a faster, richer and smoother wireless internet experience than ever before. Now you can enjoy connectivity whenever and wherever you choose, comparable to wired internet access at home or the office. Easily download large files and upload to cloud storage, stream high-definition movies and video conference lag-free, plus play advanced online games and apps. Built to handle more users doing more complex things, LTE allows you to stay connected on your wireless device in ways you’ve only imagined.
What kind of speeds can I expect with LTE?
LTE is the fastest wireless network technology on the planet. Fido LTE devices are capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 100 Mbps on the Fido LTE network.1 Typical download speeds range from 12 Mbps to 25 Mbps, or even up to 40 Mbps for select devices —comparable to wired internet connectivity at home or the office and significantly faster than any Canadian 4G HSPA+ wireless network.
As device selection evolves, you will be able to take advantage of the full potential of the Fido LTE network and maximum theoretical speeds will increase to up to 150 Mbps.1
Where is the LTE network available?
The Fido LTE coverage can be found here.
Available in the following cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, St. John's, Victoria, Sudbury, Saskatoon, Regina, St. Catherines, Oshawa, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Windsor, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Kingston, Edmonton, Quebec city, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Barrie.
Will Fido LTE devices work outside of Fido LTE coverage areas?
Yes, LTE technology is currently available for compatible LTE devices in select travel destinations. Outside of LTE coverage areas, Fido LTE devices will seamlessly fall back to 4G HSPA+ or EDGE technologies where data roaming is supported. Please keep in mind that building materials, use in basements, or other obstructed areas may affect wireless signal strength. Check out if your travel destination has LTE coverage here
What if I do not activate my LTE device on an LTE plan or LTE SIM card?
We recommend that you activate on an LTE SIM card and LTE plan for optimal performance with your LTE device. Otherwise, you can access other Fido networks but you will not enjoy the benefits of LTE network access. LTE SIM cards can be purchase online or in a Fido store.
Will my existing device get faster with LTE?
Only LTE-ready devices can access the Fido LTE network, when activated on an LTE-ready SIM card and plan.
Can I use my LTE SIM card in more than one device? How about an older device?
Yes, the Fido LTE SIM card contains all of your subscriber information and is also backwards compatible for use with 2G, 3G, or 4G HSPA+ devices. However, please keep in mind that only LTE-ready devices can access the Fido LTE network, when activated on an LTE-ready SIM card and plan. All usage will be billed in accordance to the activities associated with the SIM card.
Can I use my existing Data add-on for LTE?
Yes, all our existing voice and data plan as well as data add-ons are LTE ready and most of our older data add-on are also LTE ready! This means the only requirements to be able to access LTE are a Fido LTE SIM card, a LTE device and to be within the Fido LTE network.
