Visual Voicemail (iPhone)

Visual Voicemail is similar to an email inbox and displays messages for easy access. Learn what Visual Voicemail is and how much it costs.

Things to Know

  • Your Visual Voicemail won’t work if you have blocked the data transmission on your account.
  • The forwarding delay (ringing time) before Voice Messaging answers is between 20 and 25 seconds. It cannot be changed.
  • When voice messages are deposited in your mailbox, no charges apply.

How to use Visual Voicemail (iPhone)

Initial setup
  • Turn the device off and back on.
  • Select the Phone icon from the main screen.
  • Select the Voicemail icon.
  • Select the Setup Now button.
    • Create a Voice Messaging PIN and select Save.
  • Re-enter the password and select Save again.
To set up Visual Voicemail using the standard Voice Messaging interface
  • From the home screen, select Phone.
  • Select Keypad.
  • Press and hold the 1 key.
  • Follow the prompts to set up your password and greeting.
To record a new voicemail greeting
  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select Voicemail and then Greeting.
  • Select Custom.
  • Select Record, and record your greeting.
  • Select Stop when you’re done.
  • To listen to your greeting, select Play.
  • When you’re satisfied with your greeting, select Save.
  • You can set up a default greeting message by selecting Voicemail, Greeting and Default.
To retrieve or check for voice messages
  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select Voicemail.
  • Select any message.
  • New messages are indicated with a red circle that shows the number of new messages.
  • Unheard messages have a blue dot next to them.
To check messages from another phone
  • Call your Fido number or the message retrieval number (+1-647-839-6178).
  • Interrupt the greeting message by pressing #.
  • Enter your access code (do not press #).
To delete a message
  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select a message.
  • Select Delete.
To recover deleted messages (messages will be permanently deleted after 10 days)
  • Select Deleted Messages (at the end of your voicemail messages).
  • Select a message.
  • Select Undelete.
To reset your voicemail password
  • From the main screen, select Settings, Phone and Change voicemail password. Enter your new password.
To modify the initial setup of Visual Voicemail
  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select Voicemail, Greeting and Custom Option/Save.

OR

  • Select the 1 key.
  • Follow the prompts to modify your greeting and personalize your password.

OR

  • Dial the iPhone voicemail retrieval number (+1 647 839-6178) from a landline.
  • Follow the prompts to modify your greeting and personalize your password.
To control the playback of messages
  • Select the pause symbol to pause the message and select the resume symbol to resume playback.
  • Skip to any point in a message by dragging the playhead along the scrubber bar.
To reply instantly from voicemail
  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select a message.
  • Select Call Back.
Storage rules for Visual Voicemail
Number of messages

Up to 35 messages
(Once you reach the maximum number of messages allowed, the old messages must be deleted in order to receive new ones.)

Length of messages

5 minutes each

New messages
10 days from the day you received the message, after which it will be automatically deleted
Saved messages
10 days from the day you first saved the message, after which it will be automatically deleted and cannot be saved again

Using Visual Voicemail while travelling

In Canada on the Fido network:

  • The service is available anywhere on the Fido network.
  • When accessing this service, data usage will be deducted from your data add-on.
  • If you access the Visual voicemail by dialing "1", long distance charges will apply.
  • See our long distance rates.

Outside the Fido network in Canada:

  • When accessing Visual Voicemail, Canadian roaming data usage will be deducted from your data add-on.
  • If you access your Visual Voicemail by dialling ‘1’, Canadian roaming charges will apply.
  • Messages left in your voicemail will incur Canadian roaming data charges.

While in the U.S. or Internationally:

  • If you access your Visual Voicemail by dialling “1”, roaming charges will apply.
  • Messages left in your voicemail will incur data roaming charges.
  • See our U.S or International roaming rates.

To avoid data roaming charges:

  • Select the Phone icon from the main menu.
  • Select Settings.
  • General.
  • Network.
  • Data roaming.
  • Slide Data roaming to Off.
    • Your Internet access through the network will be temporarily disabled until you turn the data roaming feature back to On.
