What is FIDO UNOTM?
FIDO UNOTM is an exciting new service that lets you make and receive unlimited local and Canadian long-distance calls at home on your FIDO UNO compatible phone, without using any of your monthly plan minutes. Furthermore you still have all the benefits of a mobile phone when you are on the road.

How does it work?
Using your high-speed Internet service and a wireless router, FIDO UNO let’s you make and receive unlimited local and Canadian long distance calls at home on your FIDO UNO phone. Furthermore, you still have all the benefits of a mobile phone when you are on the go. While at home, you’ll get unlimited calling on your mobile phone.
FIDO UNO uses the Wi-Fi signal which also gives you better coverage throughout your house. You’ll notice crystal clear coverage anywhere in your home, whether it’s in a high rise, the basement, or the attic.

What do I need to use the FIDO UNO service?
You will need three things to begin using FIDO UNO:
- A new FIDO UNO compatible phone.
- A new FIDO UNO Router – Any generic wireless router will work, but the FIDO UNO Router is recommended, as it will provide optimal voice quality on your FIDO UNO phone, improved battery life, and easy set-up.
- Connect your router to any High Speed Internet service (minimum speed of 512 Kbps for uplink and downlink)
- A FIDO UNO option.
- Unlimited local and Canadian long distance calls from home & 5 p.m. Early Evening and includes up to 70% off international long distance — $15 per month
OR
- Unlimited local calls from home & 5 p.m. Early Evenings — $10 per month

Should I provide an emergency address for 911 calls?
We recommend that you provide Fido a 911 address for emergency purposes regarding your FIDO UNO phone. This is simply the address of where the router will be located. You can do this by phone (1-888-481-FIDO).
In the case of an emergency, when you call from your FIDO UNO phone, your location will be determined using the following information:
Fido cell towers;
Your verbal confirmation of your location;
Your registered home emergency address, which should be the address of the wireless router.

Can I use my existing Fido phone with the FIDO UNO service?
No, you need a new FIDO UNO phone specially enabled for FIDO UNO calling. You can currently choose from one FIDO UNO Phone – the Nokia 6301

What is the range of my FIDO UNO service?
This depends on where your FIDO UNO router is placed. Typical distance within a home is 30m, although this may be smaller or larger depending on other factors, like the construction of your home, or interference from appliances like the microwave.

Where will my FIDO UNO service work?
The FIDO UNO service will work in your home where you have set up your FIDO UNO router. It will also work on any open access wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) networks - this means it will work with your friends’ and family’s wireless Internet networks (if they provide you with the security key), and on any public open access network (that does not require a login name and password).

How do I know when I am within my FIDO UNO coverage?
When using your FIDO UNO phone in your home, the screen clearly displays a red FIDO UNO icon to show that the phone is on the FIDO UNO network.

How many FIDO UNO phones can be used at one time?
A household can have up to a total of five FIDO UNO phones, and up to five can be used at the same time to make calls depending on the available Internet bandwidth, distance from the wireless router, environmental factors, and interference.

How will I be billed for calls I make at home?
Any calls you make from your home will be included on your Fido bill and will be labeled “FIDO UNO.”

If I leave my home and go out during a call, what will I be charged?
Charges are based on where you started your call, regardless of where you go during the call. So if you start a call from inside your home and then walk down the road, you’ll have unlimited talk time, and will not use any of your wireless minutes. If you start a call from outside your home, regular GSM wireless charges will apply for the duration of the call even as you enter your home.

If I leave my home and go out during a call, will I still see the red FIDO UNO (Wi-Fi) icon on my FIDO UNO phone?
When initiating a call at home with FIDO UNO, the red FIDO UNO icon will appear on your phone. If you leave your home during the call and enter the GSM network, the FIDO UNO icon will disappear from the screen and will be replaced by the standard signal strength icon. However, you will still have unlimited talk time, and will not be using up any of your wireless minutes for the duration of this call, as the call was started in your home using FIDO UNO.

Can I use my existing landline at the same time as FIDO UNO?
Yes, your landline (e.g. Rogers Home Phone) is separate from FIDO UNO and will continue to work the way it does today.

Does Voice Messaging work when I’m at home?
Yes, all services will work as normal except for location based services, for example:

Equal Access
211,311,811, and special numbers

What happens if I use data services from my mobile phone at home?
Data and non-voice services such as text messages, picture messages, web surfing, downloading of ringtones, and other content will be charged as per Fido’s regular data rates, and are not included in your FIDO UNO option.

How secure is my FIDO UNO?
Your phone conversations on your FIDO UNO phone are as secure as when you are using your phone outside of your home. Your FIDO UNO phone provides security beyond anything provided by the wireless router. Even in ‘unsecured-open access networks’, FIDO UNO calls remain secure.

How do I set up my FIDO UNO?
Set-up is easy and should take around 15 minutes. Simple, step by step instructions are included in the FIDO UNO handset and router boxes.

How do I get help if I have technical questions?

Do you offer FIDO UNO service in HotSpot locations?
No, the FIDO UNO service will only work on any open wireless network that will allow you to connect without the need to authenticate (i.e. provide a login name and password).

If I use my FIDO UNO phone while outside of my local calling area, what will I be charged?
Regular local and long-distance charges apply for calls made in the wireless GSM network.
