Extended Network Coverage

We’ve got great news worth sharing near and far! With Extended Coverage, you can now go further with your Fido service. Stay connected in more places at no extra charge within the limits of your plan. Enjoy access to Extended Coverage by making sure data roaming is on in your device settings. On most devices, you’ll see "Fido-EXT" appear when using Extended Coverage. Get ready to take your Fido service further in Canada.

Who is eligible for Extended Coverage?

Almost all of our plans qualify for Extended Coverage. You just need to be a postpaid wireless customer with a compatible device and with data roaming enabled (for access to data services). Extended Coverage is meant to provide additional coverage, when the Fido network is out of range or when your device is no longer connected to the Fido network.

Extended Coverage is intended for limited and occasional use. As such, the majority of your monthly usage must occur on the Fido network. Fido Home Phone, prepaid and zone-based plans (e.g., Fido Zone and CityFido) are not eligible for Extended Coverage.

How will I know when I’m using Extended Coverage?

When you travel outside the Fido network and your device is no longer connected to the Fido network, you get connected to Extended Coverage. It is also possible that your device will connect to Extended Coverage within the geographical areas covered by the Fido network (including in major urban centres) when your device is no longer connected to the Fido network. On most devices, you’ll see EXT or a roaming indicator on your device screen.

Do I need to do anything to start using Extended Coverage?

Talk and text services will work once you enter an Extended Coverage area and your device connects to Extended Coverage. To use the Internet for email, maps and more, just make sure data roaming is turned on in your device settings.

How is usage within an Extended Coverage area billed?

There is no additional charge to use your device with Extended Coverage. So any talk, text or data you use while connected to Extended Coverage is included as part of your current plan and will be billed in the same way as usage on the Fido network.

How will the experience be different within the Extended Coverage area?

Your device will always connect to the Fido network if it’s available. Once you travel outside the Fido network area, your device will automatically connect to Extended Coverage, if available. It is also possible that your device will connect to Extended Coverage within the geographical areas covered by the Fido network (including in major urban centres). If you’re on a call when you connect to Extended Coverage, the call will drop. Once you see EXT appear on your device screen, you can call back to complete your call. A few enhanced features may not be available, including:

What are the usage limitations of Extended Coverage?

Extended Coverage is meant to provide additional coverage, including when you are outside of the Fido network. It is also possible that your device will connect to Extended Coverage within the geographical areas covered by the Fido network (including in major urban centres). Extended Coverage is available to the majority of Fido postpaid wireless customers (excluding Fido Home Phone, prepaid and zone-based plans such as Fido Zone and CityFido). Video streaming may be limited to standard definition. Extended Coverage is intended for limited and occasional use. As such, the majority of your monthly usage (talk, text and data) must occur on the Fido network. If the majority of your monthly usage occurs while connected to Extended Coverage, we may restrict or limit your access to Extended Coverage on an ongoing basis.
